There are times when extreme stress would really hit and take its toll on us. Our emotional, physical, spiritual and mental faculties would all be drained out. Despite this condition of being “Just a Human”, our inherent positivism still shines. No matter how small and big inner struggle is within our system, WE.STILL.CHOOSE.TO.MOVE ON. Go on and start a new day…fighting against all the deadlines that this society demands.
We even came to a point that in order to feel safe and secured with our stability, we choose to devoid ourselves of feeling. We have already mastered the arts of resiliency. (which is in someway bad because we just repress our emotions. Repressing emotions has its way to resurface in a negative comeback in terms of mental health.). And then we never had a chance to recover ourselves from the vicious cycle of stress that keeps on going. We are lost and we allow ourselves to just go with the flow with what is happening around us. We are dead and burnt-out deep inside.
And to our surprise, we become depersonalized. We can no longer relate to other people and we do not consider what others are going through. We become insensitive. It is at this point that you must need to stop when the stress becomes unbearable and you no longer running as a “human”—–JUST STOP! DO NOTHING!(Keep in mind that The term “unbearable” is subjective and it varies from one person to another. Never ever invalidate individuality.)

Doing NOTHING may seem off the record of choices, and a pathological(or a bad) way to cope up. But hey, when you do nothing, you just literally stop from doing anything that boggles you. It may it be from your school, your work, your family, or the toxic people.
Zone out.
Allow yourself to achieve peace for a moment.
Rest. Relax, breathe in and breathe out.
If you can literally think of nothing as well, it is better.
Meditating is not as easy for other people, you know.
You don’t have to stay there doing nothing for a long time.
You just need to STOP temporarily and regain your focus.
It also doesn’t equate to Quit. (If you haven’t read the poem “Don’t quit”, Read it! ) When this world’s demands are taking the best out of you and you are really exhausted, you are left with no option but to stop for a while.
Wise and happy is the heart, for it knows how to relax. For those who don’t know, The heart even has an absolute refractory period that even a great amount of stimulus will not make it beat. The heart teaches us that in order to be efficient we should also have an absolute refractory period. So spare some time for peace and pause.
The importance of Doing Nothing
Doing NOTHING is so undervalued that its significance needs to be overemphasized. For those who feel like you cannot stop this whole rat race, remember that you can only go far as your mind and body allow you, the mind might be powerful enough but the body tires out and later on be screaming that you are already have maximized its energy supply up to its spare batteries.
And from that moment, the exhaustion will now penetrate your inner lines of resistance and takes its toll to your mentality. Your inner sunshine will die out. You might continue to go on but you are no longer productive and efficient. Remember being busy is not the same as Productivity. You can do something but the outcomes are not as good. You, who are stressed and burnt-out, will just be a stress-maker to anybody else. You might even forget your moral values as a human. This is the perfect time you get vulnerable from anxiety and depression. It might as well be better that you STOP momentarily and do Nothing else.
Doing nothing is not the same as playing your video game, going on a vacation, watching some show in big screens and television. But,yes, I must say “Doing nothing” is a form of taking a break. This is to emphasize that SOME form of taking a break might also gives stress, like planning to go somewhere else, choosing what to do, tagging some available person to go with you, thinking ways of “how to’s”, fighting an emotional battle when you lose in a game and you feel bad, watching tv shows overnight .These would not regain your health and make you feel rested. This is not to say that you don’t do those. That is a different story.Just Reserve another time for that. Just rest, DO NOTHING and prepare your whole body system for an upcoming work.
When someone raise an eyebrow to you and still gives you a tower-high list of things to do despite explaining that you have reached your max, remember that not all person are bound be understanding.
Thoughts to Remember!(This is for the those who are working hard!)
-Do not feel guilty of doing nothing at times.
-Do not feel guilty of taking a rest, because this is what your body demands you.
-It is not Procrastination. Remember You may go on but you are no longer productive.
-Do not apologize for the limitation of your body if it really couldn’t go on.
This society must realize this so that we do not get flooded by unrealistic expectations. If the world fails to understand, let this speak and reach those who have the capacity to understand that…
You are human, you have physiologic needs. You also need to stop doing anything.
You run the world. Let not the world demands’ run you.

Addendum:
Personal
Doing nothing, for people like me, cause me so much anxiety as well. Those people who really understands me know how much I value time, that even at rest, I try to make myself productive. I cringe to the fact that I do nothing. . Like I could not really shut off my racing thoughts that I need to mentally utter the words “STOP.STOP.STOP” It is a constant struggle of balance. How come rest is so expensive we cannot afford it?This is somehow makes this blog ironic so I let this be another #notetomyself. So it is understood that this may be said easier than done for other people who are accustomed to busy lifestyles
Med students can relate
Being a medical student and a future health care professional, i understand that I deliberately and wholeheartedly signed an invisible waiver to become a helpful slave, servant for a better term, of this profession. I love the job and I will love the job no matter what (pray for me), but I know that the demands of the system that is associated to it is what is gonna give me an unavoidable torture.
