BPO/ CPO

After passing the NCLEX, I was, of course, elated. Words cannot describe how happy i was. After that moment of happiness, i again wondered what to do next. I had many pending hosp app though. There was a time i couldn’t decide which path to take and I was in the crossroads. My decisions should still be okay regarding to whatever i choose.
.
.
.
(If there is one fear that i admit, that is uncertainty. I was certain though that whatever path i take i needed to earn…a lot.I prayed to God to help me pass the NCLEX if he thinks that i will be needing this in the future. It may not be that immediate but still part of the future. The Lord has a plan.Part of that is this.)

After moving out of the crossroads and finally decided, I intended to search for a USRN-related work here in the Philippines so i can “pay” back those who helped me finance my NCLEX exam and to earn for what I want or at least cut off my family expenses. The fee was, of course, not a joke. That is why you really have to make sure that you do your best to pass the exam. ( I said do your best to pass the exam so as not to create the pressure, hahaha. just do your best).

I heard that there are BPO companies that hires USRNs and pays well while i am reviewing. By “well” i meant higher than minimum wage and higher than nurses’ salary in the hospital. This only means i can earn at the same time learn. I will be able to save for my dream:)

.
So january came, i was constantly scrolling this Page exclusive for Philippine nurses. I was actually looking for a part time job so that i can still help in our shop.
.
.
(Yes, we do have a bike shop-Movill’s cycle shop. You can visit us along commonwealth ave.ok, enough about the advertisement.haha)
.
I think it was mid january when an interesting hiring post caught my attention. Thanks to the one who posted it, who also briefed and helped me to make it through.
.
.
This was the week after Pope Francis came to visit the Philippines. That was january 19 when i went for an interview for employment in this certain company in pasay. hahaha. Well,it is one day processing of application. Luckily, i got hired. the starting date was feb2.So i still have two weeks to make mind set to the working mode.

Of course, there are many things that i considered. The location is actually far from where i live. But i love the sea and i think there is really a purpose why i was assigned there. Even though it is just manila bay,it is one of the places that has the perfect spot to view the sunset.
.
(There is something in the sea that provides me tranquility and so much happiness that is why when i look at it i get so lost with its horizon.Well, enough about my inner dramas.)
.
I also considered the transportation. I thought it was easier to ride the Mrt from the two end points. That means you can sit and sleep all throughout the ride. I really enjoy the “hunger-games” or “trip-to-jerusalem” games just to find a spot inside the empty MRT. Kidding aside, imagine the intense way of looking for a sit. Oh my, Girls are like amazona’s fighting for their territory. (i tried this for a month, but it is costly and seriously, it is taking more energy from me)
.
.
The shift is at night. I found this a major advantage because i want my day free of work so i can do all of my other stuff. It is also back office, a non voice account so good for me i do not have a to receive calls.(not a call center)
.
.
I think the company pays well and they have lots of opportunities to offer for professional growth. They have ways to make their employees stay.:) They know that people working in such industries just come and go.
.
.
.
Well, so i got accepted for the job offer. I find the people nice. The trainers are nice. My wave-mates are nice. They are instant friends. It is surprising that the 21 of us already created bond.
.
.
I do not takeaway the fact that i work in a BPO/CPO industry. When i was asked during the interview why i decided to go to BPO, i just said it is another venture where nurses can apply their knowledge. You can still enhance your skill through their hospital preceptorship program, meaning you can have nursing duty rotations with a cert(but i didnt join)
.
.
.
For those who have dreams to pursue the greener pasture(of course, there are usrn’s and soon to be USRN’s in the company)I think, this path is also good. It is just that i suggest that you complete 1-5years of experience in a hospital setting first. Then, you can apply abroad. Application process also takes time and a great deal of money. While you process your papers, you can work and save more here. But, let us say you do not have any plans to go out of the country and you wish to stay here with your family, this is also a good job for you.
.
.
If there is one thing that i proved in BPO, it is that while call centers are most likely BPO,not all BPO are call center. It depends on the account if it is voice or non voice. Thank God I’m in back office.(Although, some trainers already labelled the BPO as call center, i think it is different.)So in response to those who are raising their eyebrows to those nurses who work in BPO industries, consider the fact that there are accounts that really intends to hire nurses. So why do you think they hire nurses? They have the knowledge regarding the healthcare, meaning they can best relate when it comes to the medical terms commonly used during work so i guess this may really be another golden spot for nurses. If they are not in a health care account though, i can still say that they do not have easy jobs.
.

.
As for me, i do not like to work in a call center because i would not be able to handle the stress of all inquiries and complaints of customer everyday for 8 hours. Imagine talking to difficult customers but still you have to be apologetic and be happy and humble at the same time (maybe another reason why most nurses are hired, aside from lack of vacant position in the hospitals, is their “patience”. Well, kudos for those who manage to stay to that kind of work. It must be difficult to do the documentation, talking nicely and searching for the appropriate solution to the customers simultaneously. Well, i’d rather be the customer than be the customer rep. I am surely gonna be sick.hahaha.
.
.
.
I do not have any regrets with the acceptance of the offer. I had my family there. One reason why an employee stay to his job is because of the good compensation and a healthy working environment. Of course, no company is perfect. I think they had a seemingly good offer since it is my 1st time and i could not really compare. Moreover, I would not have stayed for a longer time if it weren’t for the jolly people inside. If you do not have any plans to go abroad or to shift your career, you can also try this corporate world. You will live. Above all, I appreciate the experience i had because in that way i learned and i would be able to share it to others. (By saying this,i am not goin to share all the “insides” of my work, you know INFOSEC.hahaha)-Rz
